03What you see at the show

The show runs in the courtyard of Bagore ki Haveli, an 18th-century mansion on the edge of Lake Pichola at Gangaur Ghat. For about an hour, local artists perform the folk dances of Rajasthan one after another, with live music.
- Ghoomar, the swirling dance in long skirts that most people picture when they think of Rajasthan.
- Bhavai, where a dancer balances a tall stack of pots on her head. It is usually the last act and the one people talk about afterwards.
- A puppet show with Rajasthani kathputli puppets, which children love.
- Other regional dances, which change from time to time.
By day the haveli is a museum, with old rooms, costumes and a large turban collection. That needs a separate ticket. It’s worth a visit, but it is a different trip from the evening show.
04The evening plan
- Ambrai Ghat
- Daiji footbridge
- Gangaur Ghat
- Bagore ki Haveli
Most of this evening is on foot. Ride over, park once, and walk. The times below are how long each part takes.
- Ride to Chandpole and parkPark on the Chandpole side of the lake, near Hanuman Ghat, where the lanes are still wide enough. From here everything is walking distance.
- Sunset at Ambrai GhatFree to sit. You face the City Palace across Lake Pichola, and at sunset its walls turn gold, then the lights come on. Weekdays are much quieter than weekends.
- Walk across Daiji footbridgeThe footbridge over the lake takes you to the Gangaur Ghat side. Stop in the middle for the view back.
- Gangaur GhatThe ghat where locals sit in the evening, right next to the haveli. Join the queue for the show from here.
- Dharohar show7 PM at Bagore ki Haveli.
- Dinner and the walk backRooftop restaurants all around Gangaur Ghat and Lal Ghat. Then walk back across the bridge to your scooty.
Check the sunset time for your dates and count back 45 minutes. From November to January that means leaving around 5 PM. In summer, sunset is after 7 PM, so do the show first and Ambrai Ghat after, for the lights on the palace.
05Parking in the old city
- Don’t ride into the lanes around Jagdish Temple and Gangaur Ghat after 5 PM. They are narrow, one-way in places and packed with people.
- Park once on the Chandpole side and walk. Everything in this plan is within 15 minutes on foot.
- Park where other scooters are parked. Don’t block a doorway or a shop.
- Lock the handle and take your helmet with you or lock it to the scooty.
06Which scooty for this evening
Any scooty, and the smaller the better for the old city. You will ride only a few kilometres. Pick one up from our scooty on rent in Udaipur page, and if you fancy a drink at a lakeside rooftop after the show, leave the scooty and take an auto back.
