Jaisalmer to Udaipur by road
A straight desert highway to Jodhpur, flat country through Pali, and then two hours over the Aravalli hills past Ranakpur into Udaipur.

Between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur there are long stretches without a good restaurant or washroom. We stop at Pokhran and Jodhpur; tell the driver if you need a halt in between.

Which car should you book?
1 to 3 people with cabin bags: a sedan is the cheapest way to go.
4 adults with big suitcases: take the Ertiga. Four people and four suitcases do not fit in a sedan.
Family of 5–6: the Ertiga, or an Innova Crysta if you want more leg room on a long drive.
8 to 12 people: one Tempo Traveller costs less than two cars and keeps the group together.

Before you go
Start early: leave by 6 AM on the one-day trip. You cross the hills in daylight and reach Udaipur for the sunset.
Two days is easier: a night in Jodhpur breaks the drive in half and gives you Mehrangarh and Ranakpur on the way.
Staying inside Jaisalmer fort: cars cannot enter the fort. The driver waits at the main gate; ask your hotel to send the bags down.
Old city hotels in Udaipur: the lanes around Jagdish Chowk, Lal Ghat and Gangaur Ghat are too narrow for cars at busy hours. The driver drops you at the nearest point and your hotel sends someone for the bags.

No. The one-way fare is the full price for the drop in Udaipur.

How do I pay?
